ENTANGLED (Sickhouse program for GOGBOT)

We leven in een tijd van wedlopen: het eerste bedrijf dat quantum supremacy bereikt, het eerste vaccin tegen Covid-19. Voor de grote tech bedrijven draait het allemaal om de eerste zijn, superieur zijn en de technologie bezitten om die macht te behouden. Maar maakt dat je hulpeloos als je die technologie niet beheerst? Quantum supremacy mag dan een race tussen reuzen zijn, intussen inspireert quantum computing open source initiatieven en hoop voor de toekomst. Terwijl de race doorgaat, is het velen niet om ‘supremacy’ te doen, maar om zoektocht en verbinding.

Sickhouse presenteert kunstenaars met een interesse in collectiviteit, feedback, trial en error, open source en alternatieve manieren om computergeschiedenis te schrijven, met als prioriteit: het bouwen van een vertrouwensnetwerk.

The race to quantum supremacy is on – as is the one to find a vaccine against Covid-19. For the big tech companies, it seems to be all about being the first, becoming superior and owning the technology to hold on to that power. But does that mean you are helpless if you don’t control the technology? Quantum supremacy might be the race of the giants, but quantum computing has actually inspired many open source initiatives and it comes as a sign of hope for our future. If the race aims to the top, for many it is not about supremacy but about searching and connecting.

The artists selected by Sickhouse are interested in collectivity, feedback, trial and error, open source, alternative ways to tell and write our computer history… with a priority in the construction of a network of trust.
